Some of you may recall that a few weeks ago I shut down my quad core editing workstation as an energy-saving measure one Monday night. The following Tuesday, I started it up and Windows XP loaded up to a BSOD. After investigating the cause, I discovered all of the RAID devices were offline.

This has been a busy weekend of acquiring aviation footage, which saw me spending full days at an airport and at an Air Force base.
Friday, it was four vintage bomber planes (one was a pursuit plane, the P-51 Mustang) and Sunday was the Great New England Air Show at Westover ARB in Chicopee,

This is a story of grief and struggle. Last Monday, I decided to power down the big editing workstation at the end of the day, rather than leave it running overnight, as I usually did for the past 12 months since I built it. It's really amazing, but leaving a few workstations running 24/7 results

This month, I was asked to do a presentation before the 400-member DACS (Danbury Area Computer Society) User's Group. The topic will be the transition from analog to digital television and the issues that are involved with a home theater upgrade to HDTV/Digital.

For the ultimate run & gun audio, a good X-Y stereo condenser mic is a wonderful thing.
I presently use a Rode NT4 on my primary EX1. If you've seen/heard my videos here on XR, then you already know it's a great-sounding mic with superb front-to-back ratio and imaging.

In this business, a significant amount of my work is proprietary, and bound by union and copyright rules, so the cost of getting the rights to display it on the web would be prohibitive. As such, it's only the 'scraps' of my work--the uncontrolled material--that make it to these portfolios. In a

This was a decision long in coming. Back in February, we got the first PMW-EX1 and I found myself an unwitting beta tester for Sony. Two trips to Sony service later, all the bugs are pretty much worked out (the battery drainage issue is 95% improved, but not down to zero) and the camera is doing
