His Majesty's 62nd Birthday Parade

Music 1: Theme from The Mission - Ennio Morricone
Music 2:Ye-Na No-Ha (Wishes Of Happiness & Prosperity) - Sacred Spirit

This is a clip derived from two national events. The first is the Parade by Brunei's Armed Forces and the second is something called the 'Bersama Rakyat' loosely translated meaning 'Together with the people.' There are other events including an investiture at the Royal Palace and Fireworks display which I didnt get to cover. Just a glimpse into a bit of the culture and happenings here during a national celebration. I think you can tell that the vast of majority of our nationals adore His Majesty for his kind and caring nature for his people. I've seen lots of ignorant comments from Youtube from viewers of Youtube criticising His Majesty for things they clearly know nothing about derived purely from ignorant speculation. Running a country is not easy and I certainly would not want to be in his shoes (even with all that wealth at his disposal) but he does his best to get know his subjects' concern by routinely visiting village leaders and even praying at random mosques in Brunei to allow his subjects to tell him themselves what's bothering them. These kinds of outings are the ones the Ministers et al fear the most. This is where this kind of absolute monarchy differs from a Democracy because it allows voices to be heard directly and actioned upon without the transparent ceiling.

David,

I am blown away by this video. The way you've done the edits, the fades between shots, the capture of the magnificent, the ordinary and the joy of the people on this national day of celebration, has resulted in a most compelling piece.

The choice of music is wonderful too. Do you mind listing the artists' names? You've managed to edit the music together so that it appears as one continuous piece.

On your comments -- we learned in school that the ideal form of government is a benevolent dictatorship. It's just that usually, they aren't ... benevolent. But with what you've captured here, I am ready to pack my bags and move to Brunei. In your other videos, you show us how beautiful the
country is. Now we see the wonderful civil side. You and your fellow citizens are very fortunate. I hope that good fortune continues.

Great great art David.

David,

Great photography (like always :)

I like your editing very much as well as the special transitions, although i wouldn't use those all the time. A lot of work to get those done?

At times i'd like it slower, since the images are so beautiful, i like them to stick a little longer, but maybe that's just me.

Thanks Willem. Yeah.. a fair bit.. i wouldnt use them often too. This clip was pretty much cut to the mood of the music and the event...Instinct.. :)

David,

I have to admit that was the most inspiring footage of the HM birthday I have seen to date. I wished it had a narration and was thrice longer :)

The simultanoues feet stomp really hit the nail from then onwards. The word 'flying' came to mind but I can't figure out why.

I signed up just because I had to comment hehe.

Thanks Shai.

Hope to see some of your videos posted here soon ;)

Hi David,
Good work !!
His Majesty can be proud and happy about this short.

Only one comment; I'd liked the shots where longer. As willem also mentioned Than, in my opinion it would be more in harmony with the nice music and more attractive to keep watching. Some times, with al respect, it was confusing seeing a nice shot and already gone) It s probebly the dilemma to have to much nice shots and to less playing time.
