Went to various places in the park with my family and took the camera around. I used my XHA1 with a mattebox and a 4x4 diffusion filter from Schneider called a Classic Soft. The filter was on for all of these shots. I also had the sharpness of the camera turned down to -3. The combination gives a really pretty picture in my opinion and totally rids the final result of that ugly HD video sharpness (not to be confused with resolution). No adapter used here.

I'm very attached to this film because it features some really nice candid shots of my family and it makes me feel very grateful to have them in my life.

Wonderful.
Mr. Dempsey,
You are an inspiration, sir. Since viewing your work I have been attempting to get more "feeling" out of what I am shooting. Images and sound that pull you in and make you experience the joy (or sorrow) of life, the beauty of something as simple as driftwood or as complex as the ocean.

Keep up the good work.

Good luck with that Will :). I've been trying the same thing (not too often but I do try) and my conclusion is, you either have it in you or you don't. I mean most of us can be good with a lot of practice and learning, but to put out (and you said it quite beautifully Will) stuff like this out of nothing takes...well, if I knew then I'd "have it" too.

Steven,
From the opening scene on this film put you in “the zone”, with the visuals as well as the music. Right away there was something different in this film from most of your other work and that is the sounds at location mixed in with the music. Very well done and a perfect mix.
Focusing on your family in this short makes it all the more meaningful I thought. One day you should try and include yourself in your films. What a “home video” that would be! How come Tara is not here?
The funny thing is that, of all things that could be wrong, what I didn’t think went well with this short was the font used for the titles. Not a big deal at all really.

You've got some really great shots in here. The cinema aspect ratio definitely works well too. I remember the beach from a one or two of your other shorts. Looks like a great place to visit.

By the way, are you taking a break from the Letus for a while?

Good Job
Loved it. I am from Seattle and Just love the country up there. The only thing I seen wrong was when you moved with the wave coming in.

Beautiful work as always Steven.

The shot of the wave coming in and threatening to hit the camera so reminded me of a shot I did in Laguna Beach.
It's just amazing when those big waves come crashing in.

I think you certainly captured more feeling in this one. A touching video of your family.

Font
Thanks guys. Shiv, I agree with you about the font. I didn't really spend much time on it earlier but have since switched it out to a more understated and less "modern" font...I think it's better

Shiv Kumar    May 26, 2008 12:52 AM
Yup, that looks much better :).
